Domestic Ditties

Now that the Chag are completed for this cycle I'm sure many are wondering, what on earth is keeping me so busy that I can't fulfill my daily blog duties?

Well, the answer is simple: knitting and baking.

I have built a sort of flow chart (in my head) that allows me to work the oven to my (general) satisfaction. It has now yielded two batches of lovely challah, a batch of unburnt cookies, and a stunning array of lemon tarts. (pictures will come, eventually).

The knitting is, well...time consuming because I'm not exactly skilled at it...yet. But just you wait, I will connect with my support group and practice, practice, practice until I too, can wear stunning handmade items.

And then there's that other "D" in my life. Dance.

So, I'm setting a weekly schedule for this blog, instead of my daily attempt.

Postscript: Thank You

Lately, I've been receiving a lot of compliments. Many unexpected, or in areas I had already decided I am deficient in.

During my teens I had a difficult time accepting compliments, that I didn't have as a child. Ah, the hubris of childhood, when we truly believe that we deserve the nice things people say to us. What I've realized is that some old habits of deflecting praise have cropped up again, and that is no good at all.

When I give someone a compliment, the most satisfying thing is for them to acknowledge it and say thank you. After all, a compliment is simply voicing a personal opinion, and what is nicer than to have your opinion accepted as fact?

So, I want to thank the people who enjoy hearing me sing, reading what I write, think I'm a fast worker, or have complimented me in some other way and were met with some sort of deflective answer instead of the gratitude I felt. The positive things you say make my day for weeks after the fact.

Thank you.

Sun and Shade

Today I walked the road to Emmaus. Well, hiked and slid and panted and climbed it. We had an amazing time of scripture reading and sharing amongst the 16 volunteers and our guide. Bonus material included how to throw a grenade and tell time from the sun. We finished the day at Rishon Litzion; absolutely perfect beach day.

In other news, my tan is finally darker than my brother's white.
